Biography

An artist’s world shaped by walks

Hi! My name is Kika, an abstract intuitive artist and founder of Contemporary Patternism from London.

Contemporary Patternism — a term I coined — is the act of taking a shape and walking with an emotion, using intuition to form unexpected patterns as a form of transformative healing. It initially began as an intense bereavement response, emerging through heightened sensory perception — to colour, sound, nature, and movement — and through the creation of intuitive collages in response. My work now includes colourful paper collages, paintings, prints, and textiles — each piece a translation of inner experience into visible form, where the rhythms of nature and the landscapes of the inner world meet.

Growing up in a Greek Cypriot family, I learned from my grandmother — a widowed refugee — that art can be a sanctuary during difficult times. She rebuilt her life after war and made an income as an artist; her practice of creating and sharing work became a form of resilience and a way of spreading love. That legacy has been a guiding light for me through my own difficult times.

The practice

Colour, shape and feeling

Contemporary Patternism — taking a shape and walking with an emotion, an act of transformative healing.

Through each piece, I transform personal and emotional experiences into vibrant patterns — turning the unseen into something tangible, playful, and healing. My work speaks to a universal resonance: the connection between sorrow and joy, the visible and the invisible, and the shared human journey of release, acceptance, and transformation.

Thoughts On Walks

A living archive, one conversation at a time

Thoughts On Walks is a filmed moment, captured during a walk or at a designated place where I journey to meet you. It grew from the daily walks that have informed my practice for six to seven years and is now a new chapter, one conversation at a time, one question at a time, creating a space where my thoughts collaborate with yours.

The question may change with time. At the moment, it is: What is home to you? The process has already begun with 22 filmed conversations in Cyprus and is now continuing in London. The conversations can be in Greek or English. I am open to funding opportunities that would help the project grow.
